Conceptualized and developed as a low-cost subsonic jet fighter, 449 units were constructed. This aircraft had a maximum speed of 695 m.p.h. and a service ceiling of 48,000 feet. In 1959 Folland Aircraft was acquired by Hawker Siddeley which produced the Gnat T1.
