This carrier-capable fighter-bomber was used primarily by the US Navy and US Marine Corps. 374 FJ-4 units were constructed, 222 of those being the FJ-4B. In lineage it sprang from the FJ-2 and FJ-3 (both called Fury). It was redesignated as the AF-1E in 1962. The maximum speed of this aircraft was 680 mph at 35,000 feet, it had a service ceiling of 46,800 feet.
