The Sikorsky R-5D was introduced into service in February 1945, as the Sikorsky H-5. It was also known by several other designitons including S-48, S-51, HO2S, and HO3S. Seating was in tandem. More than 300 units of this aircraft were produced, it was retired in 1957.
