The Convair F-106A Delta Dart was the primary all-weather interceptor of the U.S. Air Force during its service period.  Each airplane cost about $4.7 million in 1973, 342 were built.  In 2014 the fleet would have cost about $8.5 billion dollars.  The F-106A had a top speed of just over 1,500 m.p.h. at 40,000 feet and had an operational ceiling of 57,000 feet.
