War Eagles Air Museum, Santa Teresa, New Mexico The F-84 originated as a straight-winged Thunderjet. The Thunderstreak was supposed to be an evolutionary upgrade but there were significant tooling and production issues which resulted in greater design changes. It became operational in May 1954 and remained in service for a decade. The Thunderstreak required 7,500’ of runway for takeoff on hot days. See also the aircraft at Pima….
