The Boeing-Stearman Model 75, known variously as the
Stearman or the Kaydet was a pilot trainer used by the U. S.
during the 1930’s and 1940’s. 10,626 of these planes were
produced (a variety of models). PT-17 was the designation
for aircraft fitted with a Continental R-670-5 engine (3,519
of these were produced). From personal experience I can attest
to the joy of taking a ride in one of these open cockpit aircraft.
