9,403 OQ-3’s were produced during the Second World War.  It was the most widely used target drone in US service at that time.  These drones were radio controlled and cost about $600 each (nominal).  Norma Jeane Dougherty was an assembler at a plant producing these units when she was spotted by David Conover, a US Army photographer.  He thought she could be a model, a screen test was made, and she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe.  Radioplane was acquired by Northrop in 1952.
